Bitget futures for beginners in India: isolated margin, leverage and liquidation price

Guides · 2026-10-14

Futures let you take a large position with a small deposit, and that is exactly what makes them dangerous. A modest move against you can wipe out the margin on a high-leverage trade within minutes. Bitget shows the information you need to judge this before you click, including the estimated liquidation price, but only if you know where to look. This guide covers the settings that decide how much you can lose, in the order you meet them on the screen.

Choose isolated margin for a first trade

On the Bitget futures page, the margin mode selector sits near the top of the order panel. Isolated margin limits the loss on a position to the margin you assigned to it. Cross margin uses your whole futures balance to keep positions open, which delays liquidation but puts more money at risk. For learning, isolated is easier to reason about. You can change the mode only when you have no open position in that contract.

Set leverage and watch the liquidation price move

Tap the leverage figure to open the slider. As you increase leverage, the margin needed for the same position size falls, and the estimated liquidation price moves closer to your entry. The order panel shows this estimate before you confirm. Try a few settings without placing an order and note how close the liquidation price gets. If a normal daily move would reach it, the leverage is too high for you.

Add take-profit and stop-loss when opening

In the order panel, tick the TP and SL option and enter your levels before submitting. Your stop-loss should trigger well before the liquidation price, so you exit with a planned loss rather than losing the whole margin. After opening, check the Positions tab: it shows entry price, mark price, margin, unrealised profit and loss, and the liquidation estimate. The mark price, not the last trade, is what triggers liquidation.

Read the product rules before scaling up

Bitget's futures documentation explains margin tiers, mark price, funding and how liquidation is handled. Larger positions can require more maintenance margin, changing the maths you tested on small sizes. Read the relevant pages before increasing size, and keep futures money separate from savings you cannot afford to lose.
