Reviewing exchange app permissions and update prompts on your Android phone

Guides · 2026-10-10

Installing an exchange app from the official store is the right first step, but it is not the last. Over months, apps receive updates, request new permissions and send notifications, while your phone accumulates other apps that may not be as trustworthy. Meanwhile, scammers imitate update prompts to trick users into installing fake versions. A periodic review of what your exchange apps can access, how they are updated and which other apps share the phone keeps the installation safe over time. This guide walks Indian Android users through that review for Binance, OKX, Bybit or Bitget apps. It takes about fifteen minutes and is worth repeating every few months or after any change of phone.

Audit the permissions each app holds

Open your phone's settings, find each exchange app and look at the permissions it has been granted. Camera access may be needed for identity verification or QR codes, and notifications are useful for security alerts. Permissions such as contacts, location or reading other app content are rarely necessary for normal use. Turn off anything that does not have a clear purpose. If the app needs it later, it will ask again and you can decide at that moment with full context.

Make sure updates come only from the store

Check that automatic updates for your exchange apps are enabled in the official app store, or update them manually at regular intervals. Genuine updates always arrive through the store. A pop-up in a browser, a text message or a chat link claiming that you must download a new version urgently is a scam. Close it without tapping anything. If you are ever unsure whether an update is real, open the store directly and look at the app page for an available update.

Watch the company your apps keep

Other apps on the phone can affect your exchange accounts. Apps with accessibility or screen-reading permissions can, in the wrong hands, see what appears on your screen. Review the list of apps holding such permissions and remove any you do not recognise or need. Be cautious with apps that promise to boost speed, clean memory or offer free rewards. Keep the operating system updated so known security issues are fixed, and enable the store's built-in app scanning if your phone offers it.

Lock and alert settings inside the app

Inside each exchange app, enable the app lock using a passcode or biometric check so it cannot be opened just because the phone is unlocked. Make sure security notifications for logins, withdrawals and changes to settings are switched on and appear on your device. Hide sensitive content from the lock screen if you prefer. Finally, review the list of devices logged into your exchange account and remove any old phones or computers you no longer use.
