How Indian traders can check OKX funding history before keeping a swap open
OKX calls its perpetual contracts swaps. They track the spot price through funding, a periodic payment between long and short holders. The trading screen shows the current rate and a timer, but most people glance at it once and forget. Over a week or two of holding, funding can add up to more than your trading fees. This guide shows where to read the rate, how to interpret it and how to total what you have actually paid or received.
The rate and timer on the swap screen
Open Trade in the OKX app, switch to a perpetual swap such as a USDT-margined contract, and look at the bar under the pair name. It displays the funding rate and the time left until the next funding. Tap the contract information icon to see the funding interval and the formula OKX uses. The figure you see is an estimate for the current period and can change before settlement, so do not treat it as fixed.
What the sign means for your position
A positive rate means long positions pay short positions; a negative rate means shorts pay longs. Only positions open at the funding time are charged or credited. The amount is based on your position value, not your margin, which is why leveraged positions feel funding more. If the market is crowded on one side, rates in that direction tend to rise, so a popular trade can become expensive to hold.
Totalling your past funding in bills
Go to Assets and open bills for your trading account. Filter by type to show funding fees. Each settlement is a separate line with the amount and the contract. Download the month and sum the entries for each position you held. Compare this with the trading fees in your order history. Many traders are surprised that the quiet, repeated funding line is larger than the fee they noticed.
Using the numbers in your next decision
Before opening a position you expect to hold for days, look at recent funding history in the contract details, not just the current value. Keep enough margin so that funding deductions do not push you toward liquidation. If you plan around a rate that later turns against you, decide in advance at what level you will reduce the position.
